The Small (and Big) Things Of a Quiet Aussie Life

Hello everyone, my name is Amy Mia Goldsmith and I will be a guest writer at “The Small Things of Life” blog in the month of October.

In my first post, I would like to introduce myself and say something about the small things that make up my life.

1. My family and my home town

I live in Sunbury, a small town close to Melbourne‘s central district, in the state of Victoria, Australia. I am a wife and a mother of a five year old girl. My Sophie is my everything in life. You really can not imagine what parenthood is and how much you can love someone until you’ve had a child. I only hope to be a good mother and to let her develop her personality. My life goal is that she grows into a happy, confident person.

2. Literature & books

I am a literature graduate which implies I love reading and the written word is sanctity to me. I have many favourite writers, all from different genres. These are probably in the top 5: Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf, Vladimir Nabokov, and from the contemporary writers Haruki Murakami and J.K.Rowling. From the poets Sylvia Plath. But this list is not exhaustive. One of my favourite books is “White Oleander” from Janet Fitch. This book has been there for me in hard times in life and has helped me rediscover myself and my relationship with my mother. Also, “The Bell Jar” by Sylvia Plath means a lot to me and has been like my best friend in my adolescent period. I could talk about books forever, so I may write a separate post just about that.

3. I am a big makeup & cosmetics junkie

I am quite the “all things beauty” lover and my favourite color is pink. If I was not such a bookworm, I would probably be a makeup artist or a fashion stylist. I love dressing up for fancy occasions and as my husband noticed, I quite love to take selfies. My favourite brands include MAC, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Cosmedix skin care products.

4. Pets

I love animals and cannot imagine my life without a dog in the house. Our Labrador Retriever’s name is Larry and he is our sweetheart. He is 5 years old and is great with Sophie. She says he is her best friend, and they are so sweet together. I love Labradors but would like to have a German Shepherd puppy, too.

5. Travel

Me and my husband are avid travellers. Before Sophie was born, we were on a European tour and visited many beautiful countries, all special and unique on their own way. I love the UK and have many friends there, but my top 5 cities are definitely Paris, Rome, Berlin, Barcelona and Vienna. I also love the Asian culture and the people. I have many friends from Japan and South Korea, but haven’t been in Seoul yet. We are planning a big Asian trip in a year or two.

This is a small list of the small and big things that make up my quiet Aussie life. In the next post, I will probably write about one of my interests: books, beauty or fashion. Keep up with The Small Things of Life blog!
