Dear Future Me…….

untitled

Its that time again in the week where I do my next Dear Future Me.  Some of these have been really difficult for me and others not so much.  This one was quite difficult and there are lots of questions so I am splitting this one over two weeks.  In this post there is a poem that may make people feel a little upset so please do bear this in mind and its the last part of the post so feel free to leave it out if you want to.

You Today Part I:

  1. Try to describe yourself as you are today- I would describe myself today as a work in progress.  A lot has gone on in the past year and there is still a long way to go before I am fully back to my full energy and full self.
  2. What are your greatest strengths..and what areas would you like to improve-  My greatest strengths are people and understanding how to get the most out of people.  I would like to improve my own confidence and belief in myself.
  3. What sports, hobbies and/or interests do you most enjoy and why- I love photography, its a way of being outside in the fresh air and using my creative side.  I am not doing any sports at the moment but hope to be back to working out soon.
  4. Who is your favourite author and what are your favourite books- My favourite author by far is Terry Pratchett his books are utterly magical and keep me engrossed for hours.  I also like Agatha Christie books.  My favourite books are Chinese Cinderella, The Hogfather, Witches Abroad, I could go on for a while!
  5. What are your favourite games or gadgets? My partner has introduced me to two great games one is called ghostly gallon (I seem to win this a lot much to the annoyance of others!) also a card game called Sherlock which is completely amazing and I want to play everyday.  Cluedo is also great and I must try to play this more.
  6. How would you describe some of your favourite holidays/trips/weekends- One of my favourite trips was the trip for my birthday this year when we went to Cornwall, it was so peaceful and beautiful and it was the first time I had felt truly like the old me for a while!  Also trips to National Trust and gardens are fabulous!
  7. Write down the words of you favourite song- Christina Aguilera- The Voice Within:       Young girl, don’t cry
I’ll be right here when your world starts to fall
    Young girl, it’s alright
Your tears will dry, you’ll soon be free to fly

When you’re safe inside your room you tend to dream
Of a place where nothing’s harder than it seems
No one ever wants or bothers to explain
Of the heartache life can bring and what it means

    When there’s no one else
    Look inside yourself
    Like your oldest friend
    Just trust the voice within
    Then you’ll find the strength
    That will guide your way
    You’ll learn to begin
    To trust the voice within

    Young girl, don’t hide
You’ll never change if you just run away
    Young girl, just hold tight
And soon you’re gonna see your brighter day

Now in a world where innocence is quickly claimed
It’s so hard to stand your ground when you’re so afraid
No one reaches out a hand for you to hold
When you’re lost outside look inside to your soul

    When there’s no one else
    Look inside yourself
    Like your oldest friend
    Just trust the voice within
    Then you’ll find the strength
    That will guide your way
    You will learn to begin
    To trust the voice within

    Yeah…
    Life is a journey
It can take you anywhere you choose to go
    As long as you’re learning
You’ll find all you’ll ever need to know (be strong)
    You’ll break it (hold on)
    You’ll make it (be strong)
    Just don’t forsake it because
(No one can tell you what you can’t do)
No one can stop you, you know that I’m talking to you

    When there’s no one else
    Look inside yourself
    And like your oldest friend
    Just trust the voice within
    Then you’ll find the strength
    That will guide your way
    You will learn to begin
    To trust the voice within

    Young girl don’t cry
I’ll be right here when your world starts to fall

  8. Write down the words of a favourite poem- Wilfred Owen- Dulce et Decorum Est
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs,
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots,
    But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
    Of gas-shells dropping softly behind.
Gas! GAS! Quick, boys!—An ecstasy of fumbling
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time,
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime.—
Dim through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.
If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
    His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
    Pro patria mori.

This poem I first learnt and studied at school and I think it is truly beautiful and heart breaking all at once.
