My Top 3 Tips for Beginner Photographers

2

Last week I asked on Twitter if there were posts that people would like me to write and Jamie from @jamietsmyth (check out his blog) asked me what my top 3 tips are for photographers starting out.  So here are the three things I wish I had been told when I started.

1. Think about what type of photography you want to do- I started out thinking I would take landscape photographs and actually I love Macro photography and I am about to start more travel/portrait photography.  If I had given this more thought I would have saved myself a lot of money on lenses that I ended up not using.

2. Things won’t always go to plan.  You will have days where you go home look at your photographs and hate them all and never want to take your camera out again. Another one is when you forget to put in an SD card and you don’t have any photographs at the end of your day out (this one is really annoying!)  Just remember this is ok and other days you will have amazing days, don’t give up!

3. Do your reading and research- We now have the luxury of Pinterest and Instagram, we can rent books on Amazon so research other photographers who inspire you and the type of photographs they take.  Dissect their work and see what you love about their style and work out the type of photographs you are going to strive to take yourself.   Never steal someone else’s work but you can study it and work out how you can put your own stamp on it.

I know exactly what you mean especially when you go somewhere and you won’t go back to recreate it. I am hoping that practise will help with this 🙂
